Outfit of the Day: Chambray and Florals

I recently purchased these shorts at my local F21. I've been looking for a pair of floral shorts that I can wear this coming s/s. With a check list of details: 1. high waisted 2. in a light weight cotton or rayon 3. under $20.00 4. primary color neutral. The moment I saw these I knew they had to be mine. I actually went to the dressing rooms to try them on. I pulled a size medium from the rack thinking that the waist would be prefect. Um, I was wrong. The shorts have a side zipper, so they had to fit just right. There are no belt loops or elastic for adjustments. The medium was too small for me, the waist size would have been fine, but it didn't have the lose drape that I wanted. I just could not, not have them so I purchased them in a large without trying them on at the store. Huge mistake. When I got home and put them on I was disappointed. The shorts were way to big in the waist, but had the drape I liked. I was determined to wear them so I made an adjustment and took the darts in the back up to the waist to bring it in. As you can see it works! Now that I have been on a mission to be swimsuit ready I know that I can adjust them again if need be.

The chambray shirt I'm wearing was purchased through Duluth trading co. It's where I buy all my hiking wear. The shirt is light weight, wicks away moisture and has breathing vents in the back. When you are out in the desert it's good to have sun protection. A light weight long sleeve shirt is the only way to go for me. It has been my absolute go to for several occasions as I pair it with everything.

The shoes you've seen before as they are my pink croc flats. You may deem them ugly, but they are the most comfortable flats I own. In fact I own three pairs of them in different colors. They have been the only thing that I ever purchased multiple pairs of.

Movie of the Week: Which Isn't a Movie

One of my favorite shows that only lasted two seasons is Pushing Daisies. It is a comedy- drama that first aired on ABC in 2007. It stars Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Chi McBride, Kristen Chenowith, Ellen Green, Swoosie Kurtz. It is a story about a man that is a pie maker with the ability to bring back the dead for only a minute, without any consequences. He uses his ability to bring back his childhood sweetheart and together with a P.I., they solve murder mysteries. The plot is complicated by a love triangle, and long held secrets. It's witty, creative, fun and colorful.
Visually it's like a technicolored fairytale. The costume design was amazing with 50's and 60's inspired fashion.

Outfit of the Day: Another Lacey Look

Shopping takes patience and I have none. I tend to glance at racks and not dive in. I will just pick things because of the color or fabric. You can never see the cut as it's smooched with other things on the rack. My mother has endless patience when it comes to clothes shopping. She can look through every rack, move every hanger and not feel tired or overwhelmed. I for one can't do that and always end up complaining when I'm with her. It always starts with having to use the public restroom, then my feet get tired, and eventually I end up just about starving to death. I've learned to be the driver and pressure her in speed shopping. I know that sometimes she gets miffed, but I will not be a slave to her consumer drive.

Some stores I won't even attempt walking in with her, such as Ross. My local store is always in shambles and things are never placed where they should be. O.k., maybe I'm exaggerating but it does feel that way some times. I recently went and I did use the excuse that I need to go to Home Depot in the same shopping center to justify the whole excursion to the Bf. My theory is that you never now what you might find. Some days I will walk in and walk straight out with no purchases made. Others, I have to edit down all the things in my hands before I hit the registers.

My outfit of the day I'm wearing a lace tank that I purchased there. For only $8.00 I just couldn't pass it up. The good man the Bf is he didn't ask if Depot was the only place I went to that day. The boot cut jeans are a F21 purchased a couple of years ago and have been sitting in my closet since. For some reason in my head I was stocking up on boot cuts and wide legs, who knew it would pay off and the cuts were on the way back into style. It was in their Fabulous Finds section for less than $13.00. Of course I'm wearing my new JS shoes, which you'll probably get tired of before I do. I just love them so.

Pick of the Day: Target

For all you ladies who like the grey floral dress that I bought at F21, seen here. Target is now carrying the dress in the same cut with 4 different prints to choose from.

You are able to buy them at your local store or here on their website. The dress is listed as Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors Racerback Smocked Waist Challis Dress for $21.99. Happy Shopping :)

Outfit of the Day: F21 Inspiration

Forever21 Outfit
I must have seen this a few weeks ago, because I've dreamed about this look last night. I was thinking of pulling something similar to this to wear today. It is a little hard for me to wear pleated skirts. Having short legs and being hippy just makes my bottom that much bigger. Most of the time I have to op for a skirt that doesn't have much detailing and runs smooth till at least my knee area.
Here is my version of this look:

    Wandering Star

    "Wandering Star"

Please could you stay awhile to share my grief
For its such a lovely day
To have to always feel this way
And the time that I will suffer less
Is when I never have to wake

Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
    The blackness of darkness forever
Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
    The blackness of darkness forever

... Those who have seen the needles eye, now tread
Like a husk, from which all that was, now has fled
And the masks, that the monsters wear
    To feed, upon their prey

Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
    The blackness of darkness forever
Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
    The blackness of darkness forever

    [INSTRUMENTAL]

    (always) doubled up inside
Take awhile to shed my grief
    (always) doubled up inside
    Taunted, cruel.... ...

Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
    The blackness of darkness forever
Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
    The blackness of darkness forever

This song just happened to jump into my head as I was writing up the last post. Portishead has to be one of my top favorite bands.

Movie of the Week: Young Frankenstein

When it comes to comedy I just love the 1974 film Young Frankenstein. With the sight gags, and the play on words I find that it's a laugh out loud, quotable film. It's a Mel Brooks spoof on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The film follows the grandson of Frankenstein and his journey in fulfilling the legacy of reanimating the dead. It has a fantastic cast composed of Gene Wilder, Teri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, Richard Haydn, and Gene Hackman. As funny as it is, it still has heart in capturing the misunderstood monster's predicament and how easily it is for people to fall into a mob mentality fueled by fear. Hands down this is one of my all time favorite comedies. Not only do I own it on blu-ray, I always watch it on t.v. when it airs. If you want to watch something classically funny, this film I highly recommend.

Here is a clip of the famous scene of Frankenstein and his monster performance to introduce him to the scientific community.

Outfit of the Day: Cold Shoulder

With this change in weather I had to pull out all my knits again. This fringe knit shawl was a gift from my mom. She would be so proud that I'm wearing it. I don't know what it is but I just don't wear my gifts right away. I know that I must hurt my family and friend's feelings and I really don't mean to. So lately if I'm wearing the gift in a post I send them a link. I really do love and appreciate all that they put into looking and purchasing something for me.

<3 So, thank you mom for always trying to keep me warm and doing the little things that let me know you care.<3

    Midnight Florals

    Midnight Florals
Midnight Florals by AlbeeLucky featuring feather jewelry

I felt the need to share in my hunt for all things floral with a black background. It fulfills my criteria of having something tough but sweet. This also extends to my food, it just must be an embedded character trait.

    Rainy Day Kicks

Since it's been raining here again for the past couple of days I thought I would post shoes that I'd wear out. As much as I love suede boots I hardly wear them in fear of having them ruined, they only come out on the rare occasions we have sun with wind.

The first pair are my short black rubber boots. Do you remember when SJP had a reasonable price clothing line? At the time I bought these shoes and they ended up on the bottom of my closet for years. I recently rediscovered them and now they are my go-to on rainy days. I wear them with leggings, skirts, dresses- practically everything. They keep my feet dry as I stomp through puddles and with them being rubber they have good enough traction that I won't slip and fall.

My next short boot was only purchased for $15.00. There more or less my "throw a ways", not too precious and I don't care if they get jacked up or not. I did spray them with a rain protective because I knew I would wear them in a drizzle. Most of the time I use these shoes in long car rides. They are easy to slip on and off.

I was looking for a tall rubber boot and I'm glad that I didn't pay too much money for them. I should have bought them a size up, but even then it would be hard to drive with them on. They don't have enough flex for me. I tend to wear these with leggings or jeggings and a cocoon sweater. I do love the black with bright spring flowers on them. Um, style over comfort on this one.

My last boot you have seen before here. Since they are synthetic I don't treat them as well as I should since I wear them all the time. I should just clean them up and moisturize these, that way I can enjoy them for years to come.

Now which ones am I wearing today? It should be in the late 50's with afternoon rain of almost an inch. Well here's to the wonderful spring showers and the beautiful flowers to come.

    In lieu of...

In lieu of an outfit of the day photo I want to share my favorite jewelry piece. This is a poesy ring that my Bf bought me during our first year together. Poesy or love rings were originally meant as a lover's token, a wedding ring, or a means of showing regard. Tradition is that you start out with silver and use the gold version for your wedding.
I love the idea of a promise ring, but wanted something more original. Ours say," You have my whole heart my whole life." in French. It's been now nine years and mine still looks brand new, considering I smashed it along with my finger in the closet. His on the other hand looks like it's been in the garbage disposal. It is now broken and thinned with the letters rubbed off. Lucky for us you can still purchase them, and he has a replacement sitting, waiting for him.

    You may purchase here

I have only come across another woman that had a similar ring. Her's was a gold wedding band that said," I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine." How sweet is that. I always get the curious glances at my ring and the eventual question. It just means that much more to me to have a token of our love and commitment to one another. Now is a gold one in my future? Probably platinum :)

    Pick of the Day: Karmaloop.com

Since I've been doing post like these I thought it would be more convenient for you to go directly to the page than try to search the whole site for these items. You can do that now by clicking on the description.

Karmaloop is one of my favorite online sources for eye catching pieces. I love the ease of navigating through their site and the huge collections of brands they carry. I usually go non traditional with my costume jewelry and I love the selection they have. I didn't post any shoes but they run the gambit of Vans to Jeffrey Campbell.

The selection above are things that I would buy for spring/summer. I find that with the casualness of the dresses they would be versatile enough for most occasions. I'm in love with the following two tops. The shell pink of the "Eliza" top is such a flattering color. The "Penny Shirt" is too cute and would look adorable with a circle skirt and high waisted jeans or shorts. The next two shirts are casual and would fill my weekend wear with skinny jeans or leggings. I'm always on the look out for fun accessories and the ring and glasses say nothing but.

I hope that you have fun shopping through Karmaloop or like me and just find joy in browsing and daydreaming.

( I want to take the time to say,"Thank you" for visiting my blog. I really do appreciate the support and the comments you leave behind.)

    A New Rose

For the past few months when ever we visit Adam's parents we've been returning home with something he has made. Since the weather hasn't been that comfortable to go exploring in the hills, Adam and his father have been busying themselves with projects. Over the years this have ranged from dirt buggies to little welding pieces.
This weekend Adam made me a rose. The fact that I don't have to water it or watch it wilt away is a big plus. I thought it was lovely and a thoughtful gesture.

Outfit of the Day: Botanical Grey

I was seriously in need of some greenery. Since we've had mini spring like weather recently I figured that the local park's botanical garden might just in bloom right now. I hardly ever go to this park because it's always crowded and parking is at a premium. As much as people love the grounds and the pond I don't think they know about the little garden they have up on the hillside. It's sort of tucked away with only one mini wooded sign at the entrance to let you know what lays beyond.

My outfit isn't that imaginative, but it sure was comfortable. With the sun beating down on me I was glad to be covered so I wouldn't burn.

    Whiter Teeth

I think that it is a social quest to have the whitest teeth you can possibly have. We all know that the best thing to do for your teeth is visit the dentist, brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss. I truly believe that the products you use can help in getting your teeth white, bright and maintaining them that way.

The photo above has not been touched up by any means. I have what would be a borderline obsession with white teeth. I am a coffee, tea, and dark cola drinker, 90% of my fluid daily intake would fit in that realm. I do notice that my bottom teeth are a shade darker than the top, but my friends think I'm crazy for not being satisfied with what I have now. I was once told to stop whitening because my teeth were as white as a sheet of paper. O.k., I can get carried away- kind of like tanning ( a whole other story).

I've been asked what products do I use and how often. My favorite toothpaste is UltraBright by Colgate. I know that it can be hard to find that kind of paste, so my second choice would be Mentadent. I'm lazy and just brush my teeth twice a day and not after every meal. I should because I hate little food particles in between my teeth. The type of toothbrush can also affect your outcome. I like oscillating ones, currently I'm using Sonicare. I feel that along with moving your hand in mini circles the oscillating toothbrushes just agitates the food and germs better.

When I was younger I hated flossing. I just felt that it didn't do much and it was a waste of time. It's all about technique. Since I've never mastered it I use the Braun Hummingbird flossing tool. You'll be so surprised how fresh and clean feeling your teeth will be after using it. Another thing that I hated when I was younger? Listerine, yep. Who likes the burning sensation in your mouth? My grandpa had used the old school greenish brown one (gross, I know). Now I use the Cool Mint to loosen up the junk that accumulates.

To jump start the process of whitening my teeth I used whitening strips. I've tried several brands and the one that works for me is AquaFresh trays. I think that I used it several days straight which can cause some sensitivity. When I was happy with the shade of my teeth, I just use the trays to help maintain about once every 3 months or so.

I know that it may sound like this huge process, but once you have your routine down it's not a big deal. I think the effort is well worth it, and I'm really happy with my teeth.

    Products:

    • Ultrabrite Toothpaste
    • Mentadent Toothpaste
    • Sonicare Toothbrush
    • Spinbrush Toothbrush

    • Oral B Hummingbird Flossing Tool
    • Cool Mint Listerine

    • Aquafresh White Trays
*Just a little side note- These products work for me and are just a suggestion. I can't personally guarantee the same results.

Outfit of the Day: Happy St. Patrick's Day
