Daydreaming

I'm still dreaming of taking a road trip. I feel the need to see some greenery, have warm sunshine of my face, and a cool ice tea in my hand. When I daydream about my adventure it has a 50's feel to it. When I think of road trips I think of a time when everyone was into it and it was the thing to do with your family.

clothing & makeup case can be found at PinupGirlClothing.com

I've been in love with the little Metropolitan forever and a day <3. It's on a very small list of vintage cars that I will own someday. It was originally marketed toward women in the 50's, as you can tell by how compact it is compared to most cars built during that time. What would be more perfect than a teardrop trailer to pull along? The originals had a working stove, and a refrigerator in the back. It's about the cutest thing ever.

There's nothing like capris and a circle skirt to wear on the trip. When you're ready for that hike you can just change into a tee and shorts. Of course being a girlie-girl I couldn't possibly not have a makeup case with me. It wouldn't carry an arsenal, just the necessities :)

Even if it's just an extended weekend trip I think I will plan it. It will just be fun to get out and do something out of the norm. I'm tired of seeing the ocean blue, and the brown of the desert (not to say I don't appreciate it) - it's high time for some green.

Pink Promenade

I have a love/hate relationship with bold color. I love the way that people are wearing hot colors today. Using the color blocking technique and wearing the colors together or toning them down with a neutral. It always has the look of the moment and compliments everyone that wears it. It has me reconsidering my personal position of it. I have bought in the past a bright yellow tank and it's been sitting in my dresser for a year now. It's one of those items that  I would take off and put on a gazillion times in the morning with it always ending up in the drawer again. I just feel more comfortable with neutrals.
It's time for a call of courage to change. I'm slowly easying myself into the trend by way of small amounts. I thought that the best way to do this was with nail polish. Since I didn't know how committed to this I will be I didn't feel like spending $7.00 or more on a bottle. Lucky me NYC has a great selection of bold colors pink, green, and yellow to chose from. I went for the "Pink Promenade".

I'm in love with the result. It stayed true to the color in the bottle with two coats. With fast drying time I just might have to go back to Target and buy another color. Here is to dipping in my toes (fingernails) into the pool of color :)

Pick of the Day: HotTopic.com

Hottopic.com for years has been my go to for music tees. You really can't beat the convenience of the local store in the mall and online shopping. Funny that I didn't feature any here.
I couldn't believe my eyes that they are carry a crochet dress in a shift silhouette. Sure it's a little over the $50.00 mark, but where will you find one for less (if you do please share). Everyone is clamoring for red pants and shorts. I like the idea of fuchsia for spring and color blocking it with turquoise, yellow, or green.
Have fun with your wardrobe and you can do that with a statement T and jeans, or a playful hoodie. If you haven't checked out Hottopic.com in awhile I suggest starting off with the shoes. They have a good selection of Converse, Vans, and Dr.Martens.
Happy Shopping!

Movie of the Week: The Fifth Element

This week I am featuring the 1997 film,"The Fifth Element". It's a science fiction film set in the future. An impending doom is befalling on all life on earth and there is only one hope for the survival, which is the titled fifth element. It's filled with humor, action, and a thoughtful look at humanity from an outside perspective (that kind of gets lost, but it's there). The film stars Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, and directed by  Luc Besson.

Not only is the film fun, thought provoking, and action packed- take a look at the cinematography. It's a beautiful concept of what our future can look like. Film design was created by French comics Jean Giraud and Jean-Claude Mézières. We as humans take things that are familiar that we have an emotional attachment to and turn it around, inside out to make it more "modern".

Costume design was another aspect of the film that I adore. You can just tell the signature look of Jean-Paul Gaultier. 954 costumes were designed for this film, I don't think another designer has performed a  comparable feat. It fits wonderfully with the futuristic French aesthetic. The film also host a barrage of late 90's super models. It was during a time when our idea of beauty was changing once again and freckles, tattoos and shaved heads were accepted in a celebration of individualism.

I love this movie and I always get, "You're watching this again?" every time I have it playing. I think this is a film worth watching and appreciating.

Everyday Muse: Maran

"Everyday Muse" will be a random feature to this blog that will be a dedication to all the women that I know. If you are anything like me when you meet someone for the first time what do you do, but look to see what they are wearing. Some people are more covert and tactful when doing the once look over, others are plainly obvious. I don't take it as an insult I don't think it's meant to be one. I find that everyone is and could be inspirational.
The first woman that I chose to feature for this post is Maran. It was on a visit that had inspired me to do this blog in the first place. What better way to share style ideas and strive to reach cuteness everyday :) She had suggested to do an outfit post featuring hoodies. Since that is one she wears so well I told her that she should do it. I'll feature her and her everyday style. I thought it would be boring just showing you guys a photo I also wanted things that highlight her personality. The cutey that she is, sent me a list:

1> likes: reading at least three books at once
2> will do anything for an Oreo
3> likes: keeping her childhood pillowcases
4> has to wear heels around the house for practice
5> likes: having her bedrooms walls painted orange
6> is able to turn any ordinary sentence during a conversation into a song lyric
7> likes: singing in the shower; too shy to do that in public
8> is able to quote lines from movies after watching it only two times
9> likes: hanging upside-down while talking on the phone for hours on end
10> puts whatever she can find in the fridge on her sandwich, hoping it'll taste good

I read this and thought she was such a genius to package her personality in this format I think I will do it with everyone else who follows. It's almost like those 3 minute dates. Not only is she a sweet person always trying to think of others and will always stick up for the underdog she is a budding writer. Maran has written short stories in journals for as long as she could read and write herself. A few have been published in her school paper. Below is a little exert from her current work:

"Her adorable smirk of a smile merely fit in with the way her eyes sparkled. It seemed as if she would leap out of the photograph and wrap her little girl arms around me – almost as if she knew me. The expression she has on is worn with such comfort. “She must look like this all the time,” I think to myself. For she looks like her father has just told her the funniest joke, and she’s trying her hardest to not burst out with the cutest laugh that I know she must have. And yet, I haven’t even heard it."

At her age I can only predict her talent to grow. She has been trying new avenues to creatively express herself and her artwork is another example.

So, thank you Maran for being the first ever "Everyday Muse". You are a light that will only get brighter over time with a warmth that people will gravitate towards.

Follow up on Charlotte Russe

So, I admit to being in a shoe frenzy as of late. Lucky for me the fever peaks when we are changing seasons and all the cute new stuff comes out. My latest purchase is a boot which I wouldn't necessarily classify as spring/summer. I imagine myself wearing them to an outdoor festival of some sort wearing a cute dress either short to show off my tan legs (hopefully they will be by then), or a strapless maxi with shoulder brushing earrings. Not only will these be my festival shoes, but my everyday that can take me pretty much anywhere wearing cut-off jean shorts and a crop tee.
I just received the email that they sent them out today. I'm trying my hardest not to be obsessive and check the status every ten minutes. Anticipation is the worst, but it does make everything that much better in the end.

Lace Up Combat Boot $19.99 was $40.00

Pick of the Day: Charlotte Russe

Here are just a few of my picks. I always like to browse their shoe selection. Most often than not they have the buy 1 get the 2nd for $15.00. The color palette is very subdue, but I love the idea of contrasting these with the vibrate colors of spring.

Outfit of the Day: The Green Belt

We have two major green belts that run through our community. This one in particular is a wood chip trail that walkers and joggers use. One of the best features of the trail are water fountains for us and bowls for our 4 legged friends. Adam and I have taken it once from home all the way to the end and back. The beautiful greenery is such a jewel that's tucked away in the beach communities. I'm glad I did it once and explored the full belt. Will I do it again? Um, no. The ground was hard on my shins. Maybe if we cut the trail in half it will be do able. These photos were taken at the end of the trail. I was driving by running some errands and thought this would be a nice change from all my photos from home.

    Fiend for Shoppers

I have been obsessed over handbags, totes, shoppers, clutches- pretty much anything that can carry my stuff :) for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I had asked my mom to drive me to the Sanrio store so I can buy a little Tuxedo Sam coin purse. My parents, they really indulged my whims. I was the little girl that would save and spend all my money to own a new handbag. If I didn't have money, what did I put in them? Nail polish, lipgloss, notepad, stickers, a pen, maybe one of my little figurines. Today I still carry a few of those items, you never know when you might need them.

I can't even fathom not carrying anything. I went to a concert once with my cousin (who by the way doesn't carry even a wallet) and my BF was in need of a band aid and a mirror. Just so happen I had both even a little antiseptic spray. Like I said you never know. My cousin was in awe and said," That is why I don't carry a purse." I don't want to be the person that is bumming off goods from a stranger or asking my BF if he can hold my gloss. I can be responsible for my own things.

I've read somewhere that the average women carries 5 pounds on her shoulders. I even known women who carry more than one bag and if they have little tykes it adds yet one more. I am obsessed with large bags. I need something that carries gloves, a light jacket, along with all my other "essentials". I want my hands free, you know just in case I have to fight for my life :) In that scenario I can use my bag as a club to swing at someone that will cause me harm.

Since shoppers have come about to carry all our consumer goods a new obsession sprang up. I can bypass all the generic looking grocery chain bags. They are so boring and dull, most just have that natural cotton look with the logo on it. I want ones that have flowers on them, cats, a retro theme, owls, wolves, octopi, fruit- pretty much anything I find cute. It seems the more I buy and use the less I have when I really need it. I also get suckered in when they only cost $2.00, thanks CottonOn.

The best ones that I have come across and always elicit a compliment have come from Envirosax and BlueQ. I love that with the envirosax you can crumple them up and stash them anywhere, throw them in the wash and they still look good. Envirosax measured unrolled 19.5" x 16.5". They are durable and large enough to hold my hiking or my tennis gear even my dirty laundry when I travel. My first set was purchased through UO, I found that NubiusOrganics has the best prices and since they are in California I receive them pretty fast. BlueQ is known for all the quirky and cute designs. I own one of the MisoPretty shopper that measures 15.75"w x 15.35"h x 5.9" d. It is the perfect size to throw all my beach goodies in and to accompany me to Ikea. It's made out of recycled material and is a very durable product.

These have been my go to shoppers and I'm always looking for more. Good thing for me most can be fold or rolled into a smaller size. Below are some of the products that each of these sites carry:

    Envirosax- $8.95 ea.

    BlueQ- $11.99 ea.
