Outfit of the Day: Video Post

I decided that since I posted this on YouTube it's only fair that you get to see it too. It's difficult to speak in general and not to someone directly. I can only say that these will only get better the more I do them. So be kind and bare with me my "um" and silly facial expressions.

Yay! Moo Cards Just In.

I just received my Moo cards in the post this afternoon. I wish that I had them last week when I was stopped in a store by a woman asking my opinion in tops. Well now that I have them there is no excuse to get the word out for my blog. Before ordering these I watched reviews and videos about the products that they carry. I am thrilled to say that I love them. The paper is fantastic smooth and thick, the images are beautifully colored with a little bit of gloss on them. I will be proud to hand these out and wouldn't even think twice about someone throwing it away.
I had chosen these images because I wanted my card to be a keepsake. Something cute to hold on to. My next set will be flowers or birds maybe just a repeat pattern of some sort. The back side will have a photo of me along with my information. I realized that to some these may seem a bit juvenile so my next set will be for the other half of my audience. Upon ordering the cards I forgot to get a holder for them. I can just imagine carrying them in my wallet and fumbling about trying to get one out for someone. So I ordered (a few days later) the plastic case with keyring to carry with me. It only holds 12 at a time and is design for easy handling. Really, where am I going to be that I need more than 12? If I find out the answer I'll let you know.
Moo.com in the US is located in Rhode Island which places me on the other side of the continent. They had originally gave me an estimate of 12 working days to receive my cards. I had ordered them the 20th of this month and had them in my hands 8 days later (5 working days - the holiday). I've never have been this happy about an online order in my life. If you are looking for cards visit Moo.com.

60's Spring Inspiration: ft. Lucky Magazine March 2011 Issue

March 2011 issue of Lucky has a beautiful 8 page lay out of 1960's inspired looks. Palm Spring and surrounding desert area was a perfect choice for  a backdrop to feature spring clothing. The editorial covers spring's horizontal stripe tops, cardigans, floral skirts and dresses. In particular I love the jumpsuit in the photo above.
I'm looking forward to the warm spring days with flowers blooming. I can see myself on a road trip wearing my oversize sunglasses, a straw hat, white shorts, and a chambray shirt. Maybe I'll have a floral scarf tied to my handbag just in case I need something for my hat hair later in the day.
If you're in love with the 60's or 60's inspired fashion Lucky Magazine has captured it perfectly.

Word Verification

Are you like me and try to make the "word verifications" into real words? It's funny how they are almost but not quite real. To be honest it rubs me the wrong way. In my head is a running dialogue and everything that I type is being said. So when I come across these "words" my brain does a little hiccup and try to make definitions for them. I remember things by word association and these non-words are screwing with that. Well maybe it's just me and no one else gives these a second thought :)

Fragrance Collection

Liz Claiborne Lucky You- $15.00- $25.00

Dior J'adore- $22.00- $98.00

Ralph Lauren Ralph- $30.00- $65.00

Stella McCartney Stella- $20.00- $92.00

Victoria Secret Sexy Little Things Noir- $22.00

Through the years you tend to narrow down what type of fragrances you like. Is it floral, musk, oriental, citrus, woodsy? I find that I gravitate towards florals. It's what works for my chemistry, and nose. I think finding the right perfume is one of the most personal and time tasking experience. What smells amazing on one person could be disastrous on the next. It really is a game of chemistry. Kind of like finding the right person to share your life with. As in a relationship you are looking for something or someone that enhances you. This collection that I put together are my favorite scents. You know the ones that you replace even though you are only getting low.
In the order of favorites. J'adore is at the top, hands down. It's wildly complex and sexy. Doesn't that describe every woman? It's almost too much for day time wear, unless I'm on a date. It never fails to illicit a complement once you hug someone. Notes: Mandarin, Champaca Flowers, Ivy, African Orchid, Rose, Violet, Damascus Plum, Amaranth Wood, Blackberry Musk
Stella was one of the first adult perfumes that I purchased. When I was walking through Nordstrom's the bottle caught my eye. It is a heavy floral scent that I would use for the evening. The high notes are rose and amber. What a great combination that reminds me of 60's Americana.
Ralph by Ralph Lauren was originally a purchase for my mother as a day time wear. She tends to lean towards musk and oriental scents. As I found myself sneaking a spritz here and there I thought it was time to buy my own. I love it day to day. It's such a fresh youthful scent. It captures the scent of apple, orange, magnolia, freesia, and soft blue musk.
Sexy Little Things Noir, was a fantastic spontaneous buy. I was visiting family up in the SLO (San Luis Obispo) area when we stopped in the local VS. I was playing around with the make-up and scents section when I came across this little gem. It's another fresh and sharp floral scent, this time in a body mist. It's listed as a blend of nectarine, amber and cattelaya orchid.
Last but not least is the Lucky You by Liz Claiborne. This particular perfume has seen be through since high school. You can purchase it now just about everywhere. It's a light smell of citrus, flowers, low notes of sandalwood, amber and musk. I think it works well for all ages.
These perfumes all play with the same scents just in varying degrees. It's what works for me, and if you're into florals they may work for you too.

Outfit of the Day: Latin Lingo

I need to charge my battery to take a pic of what I'm wearing today. Here is the second best thing I can do. Today starts another round of rainy days for us. Maybe our winter has hit after all. Since I'll be home this weekend and not in the desert with snow (I know that sounds weird but it does happen). I had to run out today and stock up the fridge with food. Wearing heels is not conducive to carrying 20 pounds of food a block away. Days like this I trust good ol' Chuck. I <3 my Chuck Taylors and if it was up to me I would own them in every color and pattern. I just don't have the room for them. Listed below are the items I'm wearing.
  1. Faux Leather Motorcycle Jacket $19.80- Forever21
  2. Blue Dia de Los Muertos T- Latin Lingo
  3. Gray Skinny Levi's- Tillys
  4. Black Low Top Chuck Taylor Converse- Zappos

Voluspa Candles

Mini Tin Candle
Ceramica Alta Maison Candle

Petite Fragrance Diffuser

3 Wick Candle in Decorative Tin

I thank my friend T for introducing me to these fabulous smelling candles. I have seen them featured in magazines before but never jumped the gun to purchase one. My friend had one sitting on her coffee table lit and it smelled up the whole room. When T had moved to a new place I knew it was the perfect housewarming gift. Not only do they smell incredible but I fell in love with the packaging. Their tins are keepsakes that I end up using for my rings and what not. You don't have to burn them long to enjoy the scent that can last all evening. The products start at $7.00 and you can find a retailer near you through Voluspa.com.  It is a small luxury that I indulge in. I <3 Voluspa.

Inspiration Board: Rachel Zoe

I was going to feature someone else for their boho style, but I decided to go to the source. Rachel Zoe has the 70's style down pat. It's glamorous in a Studio 54/ Bianca Jagger way. I love that she keeps her makeup fresh with a California beach look and then marries the east coast with the clothing she wears. Her style staples: fur, cocktail rings, and super bell bottom jeans. Her look is so inspiring and attainable.

Loop of the Day: Old School Depeche Mode

  1. But Not Tonight
  2. Waiting For the Night
  3. In Your Room
  4. Black Celebration
  5. Home
I have been a huge fan of Depeche Mode forever and a day. My best friend and I bonded over Strangelove and  Personal Jesus growing up. To this day what ever they put out is like gold to me. I can't think of one their albums that I haven't enjoyed. I was so happy when they reissued the Violator t-shirt, I was lucky that my BF bought it for me through Punk.com. Today I wanted to revisit a few songs that made me fall in love with them in the first place. Hope you enjoyed listening as much as I have over the years.

Gucci Fall 2011

Photos: FashionFame.com

Gucci Fall 2011

I told myself that I wouldn't do this and post fall fashion on my blog. I couldn't help myself. Everything is just beautiful and lush with texture. It's so femme and I love the jewel tones used. Killed it with the fedoras and the 70's inspiration.
I <3 Gucci.

Pick of the Day: ft. Amiclubwear.com Shoes

Taupe Multi-colored Peep Toe Platform Heels- $12.99
Taupe Burnish Faux Leather Lace Up Heel Bootie- $31.99

Red Gingham Fabric Platform Espadrille Wedges Sandals- $24.99

Black Distress Lace Up Platform Ankle Bootie- $30.99
I have been buying my shoes online forever. I like having things that someone hasn't tried on a gazillion times before me. The shoe boxes aren't all beat up, no scuff marks, and the soles are spotless. I just noticed that the booties I picked out have a similar style, ha ha. I discovered Amiclubwear.com through Lucky magazine. That month they had a wicked deal of 35% off purchase price. Deals and coupons are not unfamiliar to this site. I would check periodically and sign up for updates on sales. On the shoe front, they carry boots, heels, wedges, flats, and sandals. The raddest thing- they have a section listed at $15.00 and under. If you are looking for club wear, NYX makeup, and over size accessories this is the place for you.

p.s. I heard there are some bad reviews about the site. I personally have had good experiences ordering from them. If you are suspicious of the pricing or quality, I know that other sites carry the exact same shoes. The reason why I chose this site over the others is the great deals that they have. Once again I am not affiliated with the company nor am I getting paid for my endorsements.

Outfit of the Day: Has Been Inspired

Seriously has been inspired by http://www.cheyennemeetschanel.com/. Not too long ago she posted a picture of her wearing a poncho as a dress. Here I was crying over the knit skirts at H&M and I had this beautiful mauve poncho at home. It works so much better as skirt, don't you think? I have gray leggings underneath. I did try it with a nude slip but I just didn't think it had the same impact. Check out my new earrings:

These are from my recent trip to my local F21 store. I was in dire need of new accessories. O.k., I am exaggerating. I just <3 costume jewelry. I'm soo into feathers right now. On the hunt for some pretty dangling hair clips, since I like the look of feather extensions.
Below is a list of what I'm wearing:

  1. Pink Feather Earrings $3.80- Forever21.com
  2. Gray Cotton Leggings $8.00- Target.com
  3. Mauve Poncho- Thrifted
  4. White Cami- Silhouette

Loop of the Day: Rockabilly Songs About Cars

  1.  Maybellene- Chuck Berry
  2. Beep Beep (The Little Nash Rambler)- Playmates
  3. Mustang Sally- Wilson Pickett
  4. Brand New Cadillac- The Clash
  5. One Piece At A Time- Johnny Cash
Since I try to keep my playlists small these are just a select few of my favorite songs about cars or driving. I tried to keep it in a rockabilly themed but the next one I do will probably be more random. I apologize for "Mustang Sally" but if anyone is making a list like this you just have to put it in there. I had a heck of a time posting this. Sorry for the constant editing. Enjoy :)

Movie To Look Forward To: "Sucker Punch"

It seems like I have been waiting forever for this film to be released. Things I love- film is set in the 50's, main character is a woman, imaginative scenery, tons of action with the director of 300 and Watchmen. Emily Browning headlines the cast, and I've been looking forward to see her perform. I predict that she will be some one to keep an eye out for.

Outfit of the Day: Casual Wednesday

This is me casual, I would wear this everywhere :) Maybe not everywhere, a wedding and a night out is not included. The older I get the more or should I say the less I reveal. When it comes down to it, it's what comes out of your mouth that people find attractive. It's who you are and the goodness of your heart that people will gravitate towards.
The top I've worn in another OOTD (seen here) as you can tell it's one of my fav pieces. I've been looking for a longer light weight cardigan. This is a cotton one and is thin enough to layer under jackets and coats. It was purchased through Forever21.com under their Fabulous Finds section. If I remember correctly it was under $11.00. The jeans I've featured before and found out that OldNavy.com carries the brand. Not sure if they still have the cut because these were thrifted.
Thanks for stopping by, and hope you have a wonderful day.

Movie of the Week: Meet the Robinsons

I had promised a film that you can share with the kiddies. I was looking through my library of movies and realized that they are too scary or I cry in every film. Disney certainly has a knack with making me cry. I noticed that it's a formula of theirs. Main character has to over come a loss, and blossom into a better person because of it. One film that I do like more than others is Meet the Robinsons. I think it's a great story line of staying true to yourself, family is what you make of it and that you are in control of your own destiny. The CG visuals are vibrant and engaging. The story beautifully written with humor and warmth. O.k., I also like the fact that it has futuristic scenes and that family value is projected in the wholesome 50's kind of way. If you haven't seen it before, it's a good story and one of the better Disney CG that does connect with all generations.

If you are looking for a blouse...

F21 just came out with this blouse. I've worn a similar one in one of my OOTD seen here  and I think $19.80 is a good price for a blouse like this. The bonus you can cash in on- it also comes in the color coral. So head to F21 while they have your size. If you do end up purchasing I would love to see how you wear it :)

Feather Trim Necklace

I finally got my hands on this necklace. It was sitting in my cart since I featured it on "Inspiration: Neutrals" here. I don't know about you, but I'm not into ordering something online that cost just as much as shipping. Last week I went to my local F21 and crossed my fingers to find this little gem. It was the only one, on the bottom rack shoved behind other necklaces. I felt like jumping for joy right then and there. I didn't of course, I'm not into embarrassing situations if I can avoid them. I just love how it makes my plain tank and cardi look precious. Almost like the topping of a sundae. I'm pretty sure you can still purchase it on the site: Forever21.com and the price tag - $7.80

E.L.F. Cosmetic Bogo Sale

Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder $3.00

4 Piece Bamboo Brush Set $10.00

Tinted Moisturizer SPF20 $3.00

Blush $5.00

I discovered E.L.F. through Lucky magazine, and have used products from there for the past 3 odd years. So here is the deal I have used MAC products and still do. I was looking for something that was on the lower price point but still offer a great selection and high grade quality. So far so good. I have been recommending E.L.F. to all my friends. I personally like the pigment in their eye shadows and lipsticks. The above products are just a small sample of what they offer. If I want to try a product or color I will check E.L.F. first. Why spend 5 times the amount on something and not be satisfied with it? Here is the promo code upon check out: PRESHALF
It is good for $20.00 or more of total order and expires 2/28/11
Happy shopping :)

Outfit of the Day: Half Way Between Here and There

This skirt I feel in love with. Pink is like one of my favorite colors. Just never grew out of it I guess. I was told magenta looks good on me. I just can't wear a color that's too loud (screaming),"Look at me!". A soft pale pink or mauve is really pretty. I do have to be careful of it around my face, because my skin undertone is pink. Some times it makes me look beet red especially if I have been drinking. Who doesn't like pockets? I don't think they are very functional to put things in. The skirt is satin and it would either rip or stain. Today I topped it off with a short sleeve cardi tucked in. For a while there I was buying nothing but cardis, I had to have them in every color. The same thing happened with velor jumpsuits :) When I look for sweaters I try to buy them with a bit of spandex to them. That way I don't have to hand wash them and they never misshapen. If knee high socks aren't your thing you could also wear something like this with black tights, or go naked with bare legs. I'm not sure if I showed you these shoes yet. I was looking for an oxford wedge, something closed toed for work. Sure they are a little fashion forward for work, but done in black I think they'll pass. Below is where I purchased everything and the approximate amount I spent.
  1. Black Short Sleeve Cardigan $20.00- Nordstrom
  2. Pink Satin Skirt $17.00- Forever21
  3. Black Oxford Wedges $20.00- Forever21

Loop of the Day: Cali Randoms

  1. I Heart California- Admiral Radley
  2. 405- Death Cab for Cutie
  3. Highway 101- Social Distortion
  4. Moving to L.A.- Art Brut
  5. O, Valencia- The Decemberists
Do you know how many songs there are about California? A ton, and my favs have bad language in them :) I tried my best with this list in keeping it PG. These songs are just random likes, it was hard to narrow the list down to 5. I'm sure I'll go back to this theme in the future. Hope you enjoy them.

Front Door Sunset

Why am I always looking up at the skies? I'm waiting for something remarkable to happen. Sitting in my living room after dinner watching some news I glanced out my front door. The clouds looked so pretty highlighted by the sunset. We use to have this amazing view until the condos were built next door :( I do have to say we get one great firework show when the local high school has their Home Coming game. It's so chilly out for us I can't imagine taking a walk down to the beach to catch the sunset. It's probably worth it though.
I think it's time to break out the big camera for better photos. It's just so handy to carry around one of those point and shoots. What are your thoughts? What kind of camera do you guys use? Oh, and do you want to see runway fashion on here? Let me know in the comments below. I'm really looking forward to a new feature where I post women in my life that I find inspirational. I think everyone qualifies, be it fashion or interests. Something to look forward to :)
Thanks for following and your input. You make writing fun.

Outfit of the Day: Unmanageable

Seriously having the worst hair day. It's so fluffy on the bottom and super flat on top. It will probably be thrown back into a ponytail sooner than later. I haven't yet decided what shoes to wear. Flats or heels? It's nice and sunny out so my toes won't freeze over, ha ha. The knit sweater is a fave and I try not to wear it too often. When you see someone maybe 2 to 4 times a year and your always pulling the same thing out of the closet, it's kind of embarrassing. When I was younger my mom would always complain that she's washing the same clothes week after week. O.k. some times I get stuck, but just like food at a favorite restaurant- you like what you like. Everything I'm wearing is from Forever21.com, the exception is the heels in the second photo. I recently purchased the bracelet at my local F21, and they carry it in a turquoise too. It has that deco thing going on that always catches my eye. Even though its a big piece I like that the diameter is on the small side. Thanks for following :) xoxo- Albee

2nd to the Easiest PB Cookie Recipe

I can't remember where I came across this cookie recipe. I have a feeling it's pretty standard though. My friends and family came up with awesome ideas for cookies for me to try. I was really intrigued by the bacon and chocolate chip cookie. At last I was the only one in my house hold. What if I didn't like them once they were done and I had to throw away 30 odd cookies? I just couldn't commit. These particular cookies were going to have jam hearts, but I wanted to try the recipe as it stands alone. That way for future baking I can play with measurements or add what ever ingredients (chocolate chips, butter toffee) I want. As far as prep goes it's a one bowl type of deal, and mixing doesn't cause you to have buff arms like other dough does. The end cookie was a good size and baked evenly (I rolled the dough into 1 inch balls). It does call for salt and I had just used a pinch. The edges were crispy with a chewier inside, thanks to the brown sugar. Super peanut buttery and delicious. Here is the recipe to try it out for yourself.

  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Shortening
  • 1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 1/4 Cup Flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • Salt
In a large bowl, combine sugar, brown sugar, shortening, and peanut butter. Beat in egg. Add in flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Roll into balls. Press with fork vertically and horizontally. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 350 F.

Hitchcock Hairstyles ft. in Allure March 2011

I just received my March issues of Allure this past weekend. I look forward to unwrapping every issue and checking out their fashion pages, beauty tips, and my favorite-  Beauty By Numbers. To my delight in this issue there is an article about the influences of Hitchcock heroines on the spring runways. It's a 6 page feature that covers how-tos, glam photos of models, runway looks, and an article with the hairstylist for three of the films. Normally I end up recycling my back issues, but this one is a keeper. If you remember a few weeks ago I had done a movie recommendation covering Hitchcock films and I thought this article was a great companion to it. If you want to see details pick up a copy of Allure. Don't let our periodicals go extinct.
